Ms. Sewchand is a partner with the firm. Ms. Sewchand practices primarily in the areas of pharmaceutical defense and other complex products liability litigation, including cases involving chemical exposure and engineering design defect allegations. She also represents companies in appellate proceedings. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Sewchand served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Franklin S. Van Antwerpen of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Ms. Sewchand’s pharmaceutical practice has focused on the representation of companies against claims of personal injury alleging heart damage, psychiatric and neurological deficits, cancers, and death due to ingestion of diet drugs, hormone replacement therapy, anti-convulsants, contrast agents, and other prescription drugs. She also serves as national trial counsel for a multinational pharmaceutical company in personal injury litigation associated with its fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
Ms. Sewchand’s environmental practice has focused on the representation of corporations and individuals against claims of neurological injury and cancers due to exposure to lead, beryllium, vinyl chloride, carbon monoxide, and benzene. Ms. Sewchand also is part of the national trial team for a manufacturer of material handling equipment in its design defect claims.
In her practice, Ms. Sewchand is responsible for all aspects of litigation, from the pre-trial stage through trial and post-trial proceedings. She handles expert development, taking and defending fact and expert witness depositions, drafting and arguing motions, and all aspects of trial preparation. She has successfully tried cases in several states across the South and Mid-West. When appropriate, she has successfully negotiated settlement and mediated cases. Her appellate briefs have resulted in reported opinions in state and federal jurisdictions. More locally, Ms. Sewchand has argued twice before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals.
