Marianne DePaulo Plant

PROFILE

As a partner with the firm, Ms. Plant concentrates her practice on the representation of individual and institutional health care providers. She has successfully represented these clients in medical malpractice and other claims throughout Maryland’s judicial system. Ms. Plant is experienced in all aspects of complex litigation including investigation, depositions, motions practice, alternative dispute resolution, and trial. She has prevailed in numerous dispositive motions, and has tried medical malpractice cases to defense verdicts both independently and as a member of a trial team. In addition, Ms. Plant has presented argument to both the Court of Special Appeals and to the Court of Appeals of Maryland.

Ms. Plant also provides health law advice to hospitals, major health systems and other health care providers on issues including: surrogate medical decision-making and guardianship, civil rights of persons with disabilities, organ donation, peer review and credentialing issues, as well as confidentiality issues.

Ms. Plant has lectured to clients and to other attorneys on subjects such as: disclosing and apologizing for medical mistakes, medical documentation errors, end of life medical decision-making, malpractice issues in obstetrics, settlements with minors, and tort reform measures.

In 2007, Ms. Plant became a member of the Maryland Society for Healthcare Risk Management’s (MD-SHRM) Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Ms. Plant is a mentor with the Baltimore Girls’ Schools Leadership Coalition, an organization run by the Deans of six Baltimore-area schools, to promote leadership skills in young women.  Ms. Plant conducted a workshop on negotiations for the BGSLC retreat in January of 2009.
